Building up a social media following can be a long, arduous task but it is worth doing as it helps you to connect and engage with your target market. You can get your message across to potential clients who might not have otherwise known about your brand and allows you to have an influence on their buying habits.

It can take a long time before your efforts really start to pay off.  However, there are a few things you can do that can help amp up your social media progress.

1. Consistency is key

I know you’ve heard this one before, but the proof is in the pudding. Keep posting your blogs consistently at a chosen time (preferentially when your target audience is most likely to be online) and your followers will know when they have something to look forward to and continue to read. Of course, this might mean doing a little bit of research to find out when your posts are going to be most popular, but it will be worth it in the end!

2. Why should they follow you?

Give your viewers a reason to follow your social media, what is different about your social media page? This is why it is important to fill out a biography on all your social media accounts. Keep it interesting and on-topic – inform your followers of your business services and keep things concise and keep the boring details to a minimum.

3. Establish a social media strategy

Map out your goals: do you want 100,000 followers by the end of the year or would you like to increase your engagement? Make your goals clear and then do what it takes to reach them, but remember to be realistic – hitting smaller goals is more motivating than just setting one goal of a million followers (but of course you can achieve this).

4. Use keywords or hashtags

When it comes to driving traffic to your blog or social media accounts, keywords and hashtags are your best friends. They can get a little silly at times though, so do some research on what your target audience search for the most and implement that into your social media accounts for your business.

5. Diversify

Don’t just stick to Instagram – take a look at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn too! There are so many social media platforms you can use to reach as many potential customers as possible. Identify the most effective social media platforms for your business and utilize it! Depending on your business, some of these might not be useful for your target audience, but if you know your customer, you’ll know which accounts you need.

6. Understand your audience’s needs!

Understanding what your audience wants to see and how they want you to interact with them is crucial for increasing your social media presence. When trying to sell a product or service, you need to know your customer in order to encourage them to buy. The same is true for social media – give your audience what they want and they will be sure to engage!

7. Produce quality content

Producing the best content is a surefire way to keep your audience engaged and to bring in sales! Just remember that its quality over quantity – writing pages of uninteresting and unengaging content will repel people from your social media and your business and all your work would do is put people off! Write a few short, succinct posts, with useful and informative content and you’ll have better results.

Follow these seven steps and you are certain to get the social media following that you need.
